Cycle of the 32 piano sonatas of Ludwig van Beethoven at the Semperoper Dresden and live recording on CD
““According to Hans von Bülow, the cycle of Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas is considered the ‘New Testament’ of piano music, after the ‘Well-Tempered Clavier’ as the ‘Old Testament’.
For me, the most significant thing about this overall oeuvre is that it accompanied Beethoven the man for a lifetime. And what’s more, in some sonatas his mood is reflected in a special way. You can tell which women he was in love with - and he was always in love with the wrong women and therefore unhappily in love. (…) What I mean by that: There are, I believe, no more personal statements of a human being than those we find in these 32 piano sonatas, which are also the crowning glory of Beethoven’s oeuvre.””
